I've been a Genesis Fan since the early days. It started to get serious in 1977 when my flatmates took me to see Genesis at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester, England. The live show blew me away. My next show was the first night at Earls Court - my "seconds Out", then the smoke, lasers and mirrors of Knebworth 78.

Genesis Band Member Personality Quiz created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Tony Banks

You are like Tony Banks. Proper, reserved, dignified, you are the core to the band. Your personality is an enigma to most. At first you may be difficult to get to know and you may be shy with those you first meet. But when you are with friends, you can be a lot of fun. You're an introvert by nature and do not like to put your head above the parapet. You are intellectual and incredibly creative. You have a go against the grain approach to your personality. You are downright determined. Most likely friend types are like Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford.

Tony Banks - 77%

Peter Gabriel - 63%

Steve Hackett - 58%

Mike Rutherford - 52%

Phil Collins - 52%

Ant Phillips - 45%

I've been a Genesis Fan since the early days. It started to get serious in 1977 - I was just 20 and still at uni when my flatmates took me to see Genesis at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester, England. The live show blew me away. My next chance to see them was later the same year on their first night at Earls Court - my "seconds Out" show - one highlight was the rarely played "Inside and Out"

Outside Earls Court - Genesis 1977
Now - thirty years later - and just like Genesis, I think I'm having a mid-life crisis. I doesn't really feel like a crisis in the normal sense of the word. I quite like it really. When this one is finished I think I'll just start another one. :-)

I'm an environmentalist. So what does that mean? Do I roam the South Atlantic looking for the Japanese sushi fleet? Do I dig tunnels under Horselynch Plantation? Do I run my car on chickenshit? No - I'm a qualified environmentalist, which is much more interesting that it sounds. I do my bit to protect the environment at home, but it is my job as well.

Knebworth Appreciation

I'd like to invite you all to listen to Genesis at Knebworth 1978 which is one of my all-time favourite gigs. I've finished adding the complete set to my playlist. What a set list! Eleventh Earl Of Mar (intro by "Whispering" Bob Harris) In The Cage (hail of beer cans) Burning Rope Ripples (lasers) Fountain Of Salmacis (are there any hermaphrodites in the audience?) Deep In The Motherlode (are there any Americans in the audience?) One For The Vine (listen to the lasers) Squonk The Lady Li… Continue

And then there were thirty ... years (2)

Join the Knebworth 1978 Appreciation Group. Nearly thirty years on ... Meet up and appreciate the Genesis show at Knebworth Park, 24 June 1978. This was the only Genesis show in the UK in 1978 and the only UK show on the Mirrors Tour. Post memories and photographs of your midsummer night's dream.

And then there were thirty ... years

Right ... I've had time to settle in, make some new friends and meet some old friends (and some Old friends). I've even found time to do some decorating. Call me predictable, but my page has an Afterglow theme. I'd might switch to "dorsetbay" when the purple gets too much ...

On the subject of Afterglow - I'm uploading a playlist of the Knebworth 1978 concert and I've started with Afterglow. I'll upload t… Continue

Hi, nice to know there's a few of us Knebworth codgers left. You wouldn't happen to know if there's any sort of video from 1978 available, would you? Apart from the short documentary on the SACD of And Then... I haven't seen anything of that day, although I am slightly worried that it won't match up to my 30 year-old memories. Cheers

Hi
sorry it's taken so long to reply, but I've been busy doing out my bathroom for the last few weeks. I was tiling all weekend and only stopped to watch the match on Saturday afternoon.

I was also at two of the shows in Leicester in 1977. I was staying with my cousin who was in the Polytechnic. It was a memorable weekend and we took a ghetto blaster in to tape the Saturday show. There are copies of the show out there but unfortunately the master is long gone. You are probably a school year older than me because I was nineteen at the time. What school did you go to? I went to Penlan.

I remember seeing you in the pub on the Thames before the Twickenham show last year, I'm sorry I didn't come over to say hello.

Regards
Colin Craven

I was waiting for you to say that! Yes of course it's Durdle Door, who needs another photo of the arch?

How's life in soggy Dorset? Much the same as here in soggy Bournemouth I expect!

Nice to meet you. As you I am an environmentalist too. Build my own house in wood (no extra isolation) sun warmth water and warming the house with my own wood (we own a farm). Recycling the water of our showers we take to be used as toilet-flow (is that correct english ?), altough this is not autorised by our gouverment (water is highly taxed), recycling rain-water (in the south of France that means recycling gold !!!), we now are interested in producing our own electricity by wind. I also use only 100% biological inks at work, only on water base and no additionnal solvants. Beeing cleaned by ultra-sound waves and recycled... My wife raises sheep and lambs for it's meet only by natural way. We produce our own grass, no additifs, and thats all they eat. We have our customers ordering in advance our lambs and not coimplaining at all. I hope to contribute a little bit to create a better world for my children.
