Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
before all : please forgive my approximative english...

48 years old (since 03th of November 2008), two little boys, 6 & 7 y/o, Rather a family-man, my wife and children go before all the rest !!!
GENESIS fan since I was 14. Born in Belgium and now living in the south of France (since 1983) where I am a graphical designer-silkscreen printer and a teacher of industrial silkscreen printing for the French National Education (AND I DID NOT AND WILL NEVER VOTE SARKOZY !!!) and non-professionnal farmer as my wife is a real farmer (she raises lambs for the meat). We own a 50ha farm with a 180° view to the Pyrenees as you can discover on the picture taken from our house. For more information about the farm : www.leloupdanslabergerie.fr.
I've been at 18 GENESIS concerts all over Europe since 1976, "turn it on again" was number 17 & 18 (Paris & Lyon) and I hope not the last.

"Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king... and then became one ? Well except for the names and a few of the changes if you talk about me, the story's the same one..."
For...
I had an incredible occasion to create a shirt for "Human Rights Watch" to be distributed for free during the "Turn it on again" 2007 tour in Europe (see photos), using the song "Tell me why" as a creative support. These where printed by a local printer (Graphi'creation's Gerard Guari, a master printer and friend & Put&Madre, shirt-furnisher) and 15 shirts per concert were offered to the fans. Anybody owns one ?

My favourate song must be "I know what I like (in your warthrobe)", by my side for soo many years, it still remembers me my first GENESIS concert in Paris 1976... (and my first girlfriend Katrijn) I was 16, "Seconds Out" I WAS THERE !!!

My favourate record is DUKE. To be played LOUD !!! Also one of my best concert souvenir in Brussels (with my brother and best friend Chris. Was it 1980 ?) when I discovered DUKE live before buying the record... Also one of the best concerts of GENESIS after "The way we walk" in Montpellier (France) in 1992. A fabulous crowd on a (very) warm evening (without us all realising this would be the last apearence of GENESIS for many years...). Saw the same concert a few days later in London (took the train with my brother Chris again) and missed that crowd and that fabulous ambiance... Altough the concert was great, the music was giant, did GENESIS noticed that difference ?

Can't stand "Calling all stations". I was at the "Calling all stations" concert in Marseille and thougt there was something missing. I found it actually enoying. Ray is obviously not a GENESIS voice, and his stories between every song as "I was 5 y/o when I first heared this song..." didn't make me like that concert more. I never bought the record and concider it as a record of another group. It probably has it's place somewhere... but not in my "discotheque" !

Altough I'm married with a beautifull and very sweet wife, she doesn't like GENESIS at all (is that a must ?). "Phil Collins doesn't sing he yells" she says. I love here very, very much anyway, and don't listen to my favourate records when she's around. My two boys instead are well educated. They love Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and GENESIS. Mehdi, 6yo, loves to sing "tonight, tonight" and Loïc, 7yo, knows "I can't dance" by heart.

I think I can classify myself as a real GENESIS fan, but then again, I'm not a "collecting everything" fan. I even haven't got all their cd's (as I'm still converting my LP's in CD's) !!!
Loving all sort of music and specially live played music, I buy a souvenir on every concert I go to (most of the time T-Shirts, as a silk-screen printer...). And, of course, not only GENESIS concerts... I was at the last European Frank ZAPPA concert before he past away, Pink Floyd (when I was soo much younger...), Yes (the original formation in the mid '70), Rick Wakeman's "journey to the center of the earth"'s 1978 concert in Berlin, Vangelis "China" concert in Athens (September 1987 again with my brother Chris) was one of my most impressive live performance ever seen. Vangelis with an entire orchestra playing in open air "Himalaya" and even some parts of the giant Ridley Scott movie "Blade Runner" with, behind him, artificially lighted anthique Greek ruins, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.". Police was part of my concert collection (not their last concert in 2007 !), Cliff Richard (in the early '80 with my sister Frieda, she was a fan, thousand of CR posters in her room), Prince (Amsterdam, Paris), Alanis Morissette (why not, nice voice, nice music), Peter Gabriel of course (since 1983 at Torhout-Werchter till last summer in Nimes, giant !), Phil Collins (from the beginning !) but also Elton John (1984, still a fine Elton period before his drop down), Supertramp (those days, everybody went to see Supertramp), Electric Light Orchestra (does anybody remembers that group ? Myster bleu-sky...) Bruce Springsteen (since 1986 till now and tomorrow, That guy will always stay "The Boss")), even Michael Jackson (not that proud about that these days, but the "Dangerous" tour was a thrill...), Janet Jackson ("the Rythm Nation" concert in Toulouse '92, far more sexier than her brother !!!). I saw Sade starting as a very shy singer in a piano-bar in Antwerp, Belgium, I was 17 and so was she... I think I fell in love instantly (this was years before she became famous, she performed under her real name Helen just with a guy on the piano and a bass player), the first concert of U2 at Torhout-Werchter, Belgium in 1976 (these guys where still kids those days and I tought Bono sung rather false), Eurithmics "sweet dreams" (Anny Lennox soo sexy in red underwear, hey I was only 17 and very influencable), Simple Minds (where have these guys gone) I saw Neil Diamond in 1983 (with my mum !) in Berlin and that was a shock, that man is a truly performer-singer-song writer-musician. And what about Dolly Parton, 1993, in Texas at "Gilley's" during a vacation trip over there (rather a funny concert, not that outstanding, but funny, and a less interesting hollyday, we went over to Arizona after 3 days. Texas is very strange, so are the people) and Ry Cooder in Ireland during our honeymoon in 1998 (nice concert but we had to stay seated, great country, wonderfull people !!! ). Dan Fogelberg (countrysinger, died of cancer few years ago) in Edinbourgh, Scotland, August 1999 (-5° C in the morning in August !!!).
Wow, looking back all those years, I spend a lot of time and money on travels and concerts. I could open a museum with all my concert memorabilia (where have I put all that stuff ? I'm shure I still have all that some where in a box. I'll start looking for it one of these days), I think I rather like that crowd ambiance during concerts, what about you ?

"Live over Europe" is a must. Excellent sound and music, but it hasn't that aura of the "Seconds Out" capture. The audience is missing. If you truly want to "live" the concert, buy one of the "Encore Series" (Paris is 1st class !), sounds as if you're in the middle of the fans (in fact you are !), needs a bit equalizing and you'll obtain a nice sound.

I have to complete my Concert list by adding the Neil Diamond Concert in Antwerp last summer. As an old Neil Diamond fan, I went there with an exiting feeling but came back a bit dissapointed... Neil is getting too old to hit those early 70ths notes, his forced voice actually ruined his most beautifull songs as Cracklin Rose and others... I should have stayed at that 1983 concert idea of a giant singer song-writer... Then again, at the age of 67, still singing... One hell of a giant Neil.
And the Bruce Springsteen concert in Barcelona in July 2008. Still with the E-Street band giving himself away. This man's a giant !!!

Love my little wife, wouldn't have been able to experience a large part of these great moments without her understanding and love. Altough she's not fan of crowd and noice, she has always been there to let me live my passion with patience and kindness, listening to my exited storys about the concerts with interest.
Fatiha, I love you...

You Scored as Invisible Touch

Invisible Touch (1986). You are outgoing and accessible. You are vehemently against war, and are not afraid to say it. You wish that others would do something with the world at large and fix the problems that there are. At times you may be a tad bit escapist with music and might listen to it very often just to get the high. You have a fiery personality, full of passion.

Hello Michel,
I'm so sorry for my delay!!! I hope you're all doing fine... what about your new home? :)
It was nice to hear that you could go to that great concert of the Boss. So how was it?
Well, here in Budapest everything is alright, the weather is still fantastic and next week I'll take 14 holidays.. I can't wait!! These past months were quite intense, so you can imagine... :) My plans are Dublin and London. And of course, the biggest cd shop in London, I'll try to find Daryl's cd as well :)
Lots of love to your whole family, hope to hear from you soon!

Dear Michel,
I'm so sorry for the delay... I was in sick leave for 7 weeks(!) and when I returned to work, I found a mountain of documents to finish as soon as possible... so my activity on community was very limited. But this is over, so let me explain my compliments for the house!! :) The place seems very quiet, and the house will be very nice and friendly, I'm sure. How is it going now? What about the first shower for Fatiha in the new house? I hope she can enjoy it there :)
I'm sorry for the Springsteen concert, they should give you a couple of free tickets, you worked hard with the T-shirts! Well, there will be a free Simple Red concert here in Budapest at the end of this month, if you have time and like their music, take a flight and come! You'll always find a friend here... :)
Have a beautiful weekend, and many many greetings to the whole family! Monica

Aww,thanks for your very sweet and long comment and sharing your experience of what happened.
Wow,I must say I actually like this better than Wikepedia - and of course you were there!!
It's quite a strange thing that it happened again at Phil concert years later.
I can see it all happening at the time in my head as you've described it so vividly.
I love the "Seconds Out " album so much - it's so perfect- especially from "Supper's Ready" onwards and keep thinking how lucky and wonderful it was for you to be there.
Wow,what I wouldn't give to have been there too.
Hey I read your blog and totally agree what was said by Rebekah- I mean were those people mad???
Heck I would of been over on the first Eurostar to get there.
I've been over to France three times over the years- just to Paris- and have absolutely loved each visit when I've been, the last time was by Eurostar and before that on the ferry.
Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming documentary on the biography channel too.
And you're so right about our little community here,it's a great place and it's lovely to meet such nice people too.
I do think as a whole- all the Genesis fans seem to be some of the nicest people on Earth, but we do have good role models with the band themselves- thoroughly nice human beings who have the old fashioned values of good manners and modesty.
Take care compadre,
Hugs from sunny but cold England,
SC
PS Most happy and flattered to be thought of as a friend.

You were there though, that's main thing ^_^
Aaaah why is it called "Seconds Out "?
Have a feeling it was something to do with Mr Hackett leaving...is this near enough?
"The album's title has several meanings, the first of which is that it marks Genesis' second live album. Because the album is a live album and presents songs in a fashion reminiscent of a concert, the title also refers to a few "seconds out" of an evening's show. Lastly, the album's title humorously refers to the departure of another significant member of the band: Steve Hackett. Following Gabriel's departure in 1975, Hackett was the "second [one] out" of the band."

As for Spring...it always seems to reach me later than everywhere else up here.
Buds are starting to blossom, the sun has been shining but it's still cold.
Sounds much nicer where you are.
Take care,
SC.
