Wow this section is quiet.   I've really become obsessed with early Genesis again, viewing some of the 71-74 performances and astonished at the high level of artistry.  I always ask this but I'll ask again: did any member of Genesis do solo work on the level of the 'classic' lineup?

Harold did you ever get a chance to hear Pawn Hearts?

Anyone have progressive rock recommendations?  My ears are desperate.

If you get the vinyl try for the full gatefold, it's among Paul Whitehead's best work, and the giant inside photo is a head trip all it's own.

When I was a teenager I went to these massive freak parties on Long Island. The same chick would always hand you acid at the door, lovely girl with long blond hair.  At some point the older guys (19) sat me in the dark between two massive columns of speakers and put on A Plague of Lighthhouse Keepers from Pawn Hearts. That is an experience I will never forget.  Hearing Fountain of Salmacis for the first time was a close 2nd, same people different party.

I miss those days,  the girls, the moonlight romps on mescaline, Cheeba Cheeba, a hundred people following every progressive band that popped out of Europe.

Now my neighbors are blank faced FIT hipsters, male prostitutes on meth and yuppie couples into Huey Lewis and the News. I'd say it's time to put some LSD in the water but that would make them even blander.

I hope nobody was upset that I stated Tony Stratton Smith was gay, it is 2011 and I expect anyone intelligent enough to be discussing Genesis is a few levels above that kind of discrimination?

Everyone here should really check out Pawn Hearts by VDGG, if you like Nursery Cryme you should love it, same gothic atmosphere.

Any recommendations on Genesis solo material?  I've owned the early Hackett albums at times but they don't hold up for me.

Harold the Barrel, Cut off his toes and sold'em all for tea. Hell yeah! And of course I know seven stones by heart. Learned it when I was a kid sitting infront of my HifI gett'en stupid.

ps does anyone consider Nursery Cryme to be the best Genesis album?  I know it's not the best recording-wise but to me it is the most imaginative and mystical of them all.  It is haunting.
