My ears belong to Genesis

Now is it really all that bad? It was kind of cool to hear Mike and Tony with someone else on vocals for a change. I think that it was admirable for them to put out another album after Phil left. I understand that It may have been alittle better if some of the other tracks were put on instead of a few that were.
Whats your opinion?

Pete
Do yourself a favor and burn yourself this version/alt track listing (if you have the other left off tracks*).

1. Calling All Stations
2. Congo
3. Not About Us
4. Alien Afternoon
5. The Dividing Line
6. Anything Now*
7. Phrett*
8. Small Talk
9. Sign Your Life Away*
10. There Must Be Some Other Way
11. Uncertain Weather
12. Run Out Of Time*
13. One Mans Fool

Dont get me wrong I love the album but find myself listening to this version more. I have only seen YouTube live footage of the CAS tour. Most of it did sound great but get your point about his stage presence. Youre right about the huge shoes to fill. Must have been a daunting task.

Thanks for the suggestion Rych, I will do just that. The only extras I have are the ones from the extras disc in the box set. All I need is Phrett, which I might have lurking about somewhere.

Yea Pete you might like the track listing. Phrett was an instrumental from one of the singles. I believe it was on the Not About Us cd single, not sure, I never picked CAS up until last year so, to me it was a nice change. Then I got the rest of the 8 or so songs that were left off and made my own mix. Said, "what the hell" I'll make my own version of CAS. I really think it could have been better recieved if those other songs were included in the original release

Like the track listing idea Rych. I think I'd probably drop Uncertain Weather and have second thoughts about Small Talk and maybe a couple of the B-sides. I did rather like 'Run Out Of Time' though. Close to being one of the poppy ballads that left me cold in the 80's but with a lovely twist to the keyboard sound. Haven't played it for a long time but if memory serves it might have been one of Mr.Banks little forays into quarter tones (Which he does to great effect on ''Thursday the Twelfth' a highlight from one of his solo albums). Still can't understand why they don't put out a relatively cheap DVD of that tour, even in a card case or something. There's so much they could make a few bucks from with a little effort to please the fans and enhance the band's legacy (Given that from a creative point of view they are presumably defunct now). It's small beer compared with repackaged high price re-releases of the same material again and again I suppose. Bet Ray Wilson would appreciate the bucks though.

I would think so too. There's plenty of the live stuff on YouTube to watch but you are right, a nice DVD would make me happy. One that would/could be sanctioned by the band and not some bootleg stuff. But who knows, maybe they will release some of it in the upcoming Live DVD boxset we keep hearing about. Thanks for the responce

i liked CAS - took awhile to get use to it, but like you say, some really strong moments (alien afternoon, must be some other way, dividing line) and i quite liked Ray's voice - thought he did alright considering they'd lossed phil. I did find it difficult at times tho, because phil voice and drumming wasn't on it and they used a different drummer and guitarist to record and go on tour with. If only Daryl was available at the time and also chester, but it wasn't to be!

i only just heard recently the b sides "sign your life away" and "anything now" on you tube, - thought they could have been on the record in place of maybe "shipwrecked / if that's what you need".

talking of CAS b-sides, i already have "phret, 7/8, papa he said, banjo man" - However, i've been informed there are some more b-sides from this era and i cannot find or listen to them on the internet. They are "run out of time, nowhere to turn"??? are these song titles correct? do they exist?

Cheers, N

You are correct. No where else to turn was never released but considered at one point early on the promo period before the actual release. Run out of time was on the extra's disk on the 83-97 boxset
