Okay, we all know that Genesis started out as a Prog group, and became the BEST Prog group. Later, they waded in the Pop waters, and proved they were MORE than capable of churning out Pop hits.
So, of ALL their Pop hits, which one is your personal favorite?
For me, it's a tie between "Follow You Follow Me" and "Misunderstanding"
I would think so Squonk huner, they weren't big sellers but they certainly sound pop to my ears.
I would have to agree with the majority (thus far) and say I Can't Dance is my favorite pop Genesis song (It's what got me interested in the band originally)
Oddly enough I dont care for ICD much. NSOM is pretty good IMHO.
Invisible touch is what got me hooked on Genesis. IT I heard on the radio and bought the tape and started working my way back until I had all the albums. Now I collect boots and my favorite era is the 4 man era. I wish Steve had stayed for at least one or 2 more albums.
Anyways yes the songs I mentioned were not big hits but pretty poppy but I like them. And I hear taking it all too hard at the grocery store from time to time on the muzack thingy.
The ababcab album was kind of a weird one. The lyrics in a lot of songs kind of were silly. But overall I enjoy it especially when I put on Abacab Complete.
Okay, favorite pop song that "went somewhere" would have to probably be... *squints and contemplates* .. "Jesus, He Knows Me." It's awesome! (I Can't Dance and FYFM are close seconds, though!)
Favorite overlooked pop song would probably have to be either "Living Forever" or "Anything She Does." ... or "Small Talk". :D
I would still consider the Abacab album very proggy (but of a very different nature from anything prior to or after it -- probably why it is my favorite G album)
Keep It Dark (for me), while it certainly sounds a bit poppy, lyrically speaking is quite prog
Good one M'sM I LOVE the sounds of Living Forever I can't help but think of summer of 1991 anytime I here that one (as well as the obvious other greats from WCD)
I dunno about abacab being proggy but if I had to choose a worst album by Genesis abacab and FGTR would be what I would choose. And FGTR not so much since they were teenagers when they wrote and played the songs.
