Sorry mate, my vote (as always) goes to the track formerly known as "Burt"......."Hold On My Heart".
I actually like "Whodunnit?", must be perverse (like the Great Man A.G.B. says).
I know I'm in the minority though. Oh well.
Well, here's one more who likes whodunnit? I like it when band do crazy and unusual tracks like that. I am all for experimening! and I would also have to say "Hold On My Heart". It's not a bad song, but it is a bit boring...
I love all those songs. For me it's any of the easy listening ballads from Invisible Touch & We Can't Dance. And just my opinion but, the only way the word "worst" should ever be used in connection with "Paperlate" is worst decision to keep a song off an album.
"Whodunnit" was the first Genesis song that grabbed 25 years ago so I'll always defend it.
That's very interesting to me. That was the first song I ever heard by Genesis where I thought, God that is awful! I always skipped it when listening to abacab. There's been a lot of debate about Who Dunnit, so much that I decided not long ago to try it again, that maybe my mind would have changed. I made it through about 30 seconds and decided definitely not!! Ah well, to each their own. It's cool if others like it. I wish I could, I just can't!
There's quite a few tracks I would consider 'throwaway'.
Whodunnit would be aloft of that pile, nestling just above Hold on My Hearth, Throwing It All Awaste, Invisibubble Touch ... y'know, stuff like that.
This kind of song pairing isn't without precedent in their live history. After all they followed up the monster "In the Cage-Supper's Ready" medley in 1986 with "Invisible Touch." Am I'm sure there are those who equally disliked "Misunderstanding" following "Supper's Ready" on the 3SL tour. They do like their high & lows in the set list, I guess.
