I'll agree with "WHODUNNIT" and "Illegal Alien". However, Robbery Assault & Battery is quite the fantastic song. The drumming on the instrumental part is phenomenal and the whole thing is very lively and energetic. You should listen to it with headphones and pay close attention to the balance of the instruments. I think it is one of the band's best songs and, like the cinema show, it got better when played live. The Battle of Epping Forest may not flow as well as other Genesis songs but still a great song overall. I remember when I first heard of it thinking "another Supper's Ready". It didn't turn out as good as "Supper's Ready" but I still liked the idea of an epic song in another great album. I think the whole Selling England album showed an increased maturity on the band's musical skills. As far as "MAMA" goes, I personally think that the album it came from should have been titled "MAMA" instead of just Genesis ( I never got the fact that the name was so lame and the album cover a complete afterthought). I think that song is one of the strongest ones from the period after DUKE. Maybe I'm not too wild about the laugh part but I love the simplistic approach. I don't necessarily like simplistic approaches because nine-out-of-ten times it doesn't work. However, when it works it sounds very good. I think "MAMA" and "Man on a corner" are two good examples of it working. So, going back to my first sentence, I think "WHODUNNIT" and "Illegal Alien" are bad example when simplistic or "not so tightly worked" approach did not work. In my mind, the end result were a couple of somewhat childish sounding songs that do not compare to the level of other Genesis material. On the "Waiting Room", it is a fascinating song that shows more of the true artistic side over anything commercial. Musically speaking, it is a bout contrasts the dissonant beginning just enhances the instrumental part as it fades in. I personally think of it as a brilliant piece. Finally, perhaps you are nuts! But then again, who isn't among us?
Never a Time, Tell me Why, Since i Lost You, Hold on My Heart, In Too Deep, Invisible Touch, Scenes from a Nights Dream, Ballad of Big, Snowbound, All in a Mouse's Night.
All in a Mouses Night?! You've got to be kidding. Great song and I love the outro guitar solo by Steve. Ballad of Big, Snowbound and Scenes from a Nights Dream are good tunes too!
My personal nomination for "worst Genesis song ever" goes to ME AND VIRGIL.
I've always liked Hold on My Heart (as far as love songs go - I like it much better than In Too Deep); Whodunnit is quirky and fun, though I can't say I want to listen to it every day.
